This cool little flicker features a good time in the beer garden! First - ask the barkeep to get you a beer glass and FILL 'ER UP. Flip it back and forth, and you'll be offering a traditional toast - HERE'S HOW.

What fun to add to to a gift of beer glasses or even a case of micro-brewery beer.

We only have one of these beer novelties, so we took 2 photos and combined them, so you can see the results of the flicker action.

This little novelty is from the 1950s - when flickers were all the rage. The originals (from the '50s) are not as flashy as those made today. But, we think you can better see the transition between the images. - Hard to see in a photo. But, the transition is there.

Flickers are technically called lenticulars (hard to say after a beer or two or three!)

The images are cut into stripes. Then, there is one stripe from the first image, then one stripe from the second, first, second, and so on. The plastic lens on top has a texture that magnifies the images, and transitions from one image to the other. Whew! Hard to explain.

The technology was invented by the Vari-Vue company way back in 1936. Most novelty items like this beer joke were made in the 1950s and 1960s.And it is still being used today. Of course, with modern production methods, the process has been streamlined and the pieces are much more elaborate than in the past. We are big fans of the old ones. Newer, not so much.
