Vintage Horseshoe Rose Bouquet Chromolithograph Embossed Die-Cut Relief Paper Scraps

Scraps like these, made in the late 1880s, feature gorgeous chromolithography. The colors are so wonderfully vibrant that flowers look almost real. There are lots of roses and violets and lilies of the valley.

These are genuine antique scraps, printed in Germany on firm paper, not quite cardboard. The embossing is deeper than the newer scraps produced in the early 20th century. The expert die cutting between motifs indicates the fine workmanship of years gone by.

Marked M&S (for Mamelok & Söhne) on one of the branches between motifs, this scrap was originally numbered 6022 and Germany. Although you'll not see all of the markings on each sheet.

Not only were these vibrant in their printing, they were finished with a light coating of varnish, which as lasted through the years, protecting the printing. They were made well before the world wars prevented their sale.

Each motif measure a touch over 1 inch wide by 1-1/2 inch high. There are 8 motifs per sheet, 2 each of 4 designs.
