Vintage Lichty's Pianos Reading PA Dennison Metallic Gummed Seals - Package of 5

Before there were ever self-adhesive stickers, there were gummed seals. And many businesses had their own seals made. The best seals were produced by the Dennison Manufacturing Company of Framingham, Massachusetts. Dennison made lots of paper goods, party supplies, office supplies and more from 1884 to 1990, when it merged with Avery and became Avery-Dennison.

The older Dennison products are quite collectible today. This package of five (5) vintage metallic seals was produced by Dennison for Lichty's Pianos of Reading, Pennsylvania. The labels were produced in the early 1900s, probably between 1900 and 1912. These labels were attached to piano rolls for player pianos, letterheads and other products offered by Lichty.

These gold metallic labels show some tarnishing or oxidation of the gold printer's ink. We love that type of patina that only real aging can produce.

Each label measures 1 inch in diameter and features a scalloped border. The label reads:


The gummed adhesive on the back is water-activated. We suggest that you do not lick them because we are not sure of their provenance. Use a dampened sponge. It is possible that the adhesive is no longer active on some of the seals. If that is the case, then it would be best to add your own adhesive to the backs to use them.

There are five (5) seals in each package. The seals shown in the photographs are indicative of the ones you will receive. Each package is different.
