The image of the Blessed Mother that is known as the Miraculous Medal was created, or at least defined, by Saint Catherine Labouré following a series of three visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the same year in the 1830s.

In one of these visions, Mary was standing on a globe, representing the earth. Many Catholics wear the Miraculous Medal, praying for Mary to intercede with Christ, her Son, on their behalf.

Miraculous Medals are often added to a baby's crib (of course, somewhere that the baby or other children could not reach it - for fear of the small parts!) for protection. DO NOT PIN ON TO BABY. DO NOT DISPLAY ON OR NEAR BABY. DO NOT PIN TO CRIB. SMALL PARTS WARNING.

This wonderful metal has been added to a blue satin ribbon with a little yellow ribbon rosette and sewn to a paper doily so many years ago.

This is in tremendous condition for its age (we suspect the 1950s or 1960s).

The medal reads:

O Mary Conceived without Sin
Pray for Us Who
Have Recourse to Thee
1830

On the back of the medal is a frame of stars surrounding an M with a Cross through it (typical of the Miraculous Medal).
