This vintage birch bark basket is formed with plastic lanyard lace, and dates from the 1960s. It was a souvenir from the Adirondacks bought on a vacation trip. It is nicely made, but was made as souvenir quality.

The lid fits snugly inside the box and there is a sweet handle on top. We've not opened it with the handle, just to be careful.

The decorative lanyard lace is made of plastic - the type that is used in making camp crafts from the 1950s - and the lace is still popular today. The box/basket is sewn with the lace and has also been glued and fastened with sewing thread. We believe this basket to be made entirely of bark. Some souvenirs (and maybe this one) are a combination of heavy paper, birch bark and birch paper.
