This vintage redware miniature trinket dish was handcrafted by the highly collectible Turtle Creek Potters (workshops of David T. Smith. Dated 1989.

This is a true piece of heirloom-quality American folk art. The little dish features a glossy, deep dark blue/black glazed interior decorated with a classic primitive country motif.

The design features a classic glaze featuring 4 primitive style yellow-ocher flowers, meticulously hand-dotted with raised slip that gives it a tactile texture. Between the flowers are 4 flat earthen red hearts expertly applied as a traditional slip later to replicate the historic, hand-painted look of earl American antiques. The bottom exterior is reveals unglazed natural orange-brown tone of the traditional red clay. There is a reflection on the photos - the piece is as described with high quality primitive glaze work.

You'll see a small, shallow production indentation on the unglazed back base. This is entirely original to the pieces creations - most likely where the artisan moved it into or out of the kiln. Typical and desirable characteristic of authentic, primitive-style studio pottery.

Clearly hallmark stamped with the Turtle Creek Potters emblem. It is hand-incised with the artisans' initials DL and the year 1989.

Clean with a soft cloth only. Do not immerse in water. Not dishwasher-safe.

This vintage redware piece has a traditional glaze - intended for decorative display or dry trinket use only (not food safe).
