A truly special find with a deep family history, this vintage bow pin dates back to the 1930s or early 1940s. The body of the pin features an intricate, lacy openwork design cut directly into deep midnight blue plastic. The center is accented with a smooth, round matching midnight blue plastic cabochon. While it appears solid at first glance, the cabochon reveals a beautiful, subtle transparency and shows a lighter blue shade when held directly up to the light.

What makes this piece an extraordinary find for jewelry collectors is its distinctive hardware construction. The reverse features a separate, clear plastic finding mechanism attached to the back of the bow. This finding houses the metal pin wire and terminates in an entirely integrated, clear plastic catch hook. This prominent use of plastic for the structural hardware strongly points to the WWII era, when metal restrictions inspired incredibly creative, high-quality work from artisan designers.

Family lore suggests a possible connection to the iconic 1930s/40s Hollywood actress turned avant-garde plastic jewelry designer, Martha Sleeper. Whether a rare Sleeper design or a stellar example of early American plastic art, it is an exquisite, wearable piece of history.
