There are three figures, walking along a road. The central figure represents Jesus along with two of His disciples.
The artwork is based on the story of Jesus appearing to two disciples along the
road to Emmaus (about 7 miles from Jerusalem) after the Resurrection of Jesus.
The story is told in Luke 24:13-35.
Jesus was not immediately
recognizable to the two travelers. The three broke bread that evening and
only then did the other two understand that it was their Prophet. At
that moment, the third man (Jesus) disappeared.
This gorgeous holy card represents their trip along the road, with three angels above to watch their way. The original painting by Jacques Stella (1596-1657) can be found at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Nantes, France.
The card measures 5 inches high by 3 inches wide. The back is blank, except for a faint colophon at the bottom describing the origins. You might write your own prayer or message for a friend.
