We're glad to see the Girl Scouts are still going strong. So many of us over the years have learned service and leadership.
When I moved back to Donora, I discovered some of the Brownies that I had led as an older scout. What fun! And we became fast friends as were now all grown up.
This golden metal leader's pin was from a Donora Girl Scout Leader's lapel back in the late 1950s or 1960s. It proudly indicated 15 years of service. The recognizable emblem base pin holds a small chain with the Roman numerals XV (15) in honor of the wearer's 15 years of leadership. The emblem measures about 7/8 inch by 7/8 inch.
Just as the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts' motto is "Be Prepared."
The Girl Scout Handbook in 1947, "Be Prepared" was described as such:
A Girl Scout is ready to help out wherever she is needed.
Willingness to serve is not enough; you must know how to do the job well, even in an emergency.
